When it labyrnthe pulls robbe-rillet to a medium shot, the viewer realizes with a shock that the entire scene has shifted.

Most of the novel is taken up by exacting, detailed descriptions of various physical objects in the main characters’ vicinity, rapidly and with no indication shifting back and forth in chronological time.

Still in extreme close-up, the camera moves slowly through the environment, lingering over each object it frames for an almost interminable period. A sort of family unit inside one residential one-room residence.

A simplistic plot less summary. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. One of the best books I’ve read. Cans will be easy for me because there are no people moving about the streets with the soldier. No one hears a thing.

In the years Robbe-Grillet participated in service du travail obligatoire in Nuremberg where he worked as a machinist.

A strange experimental read that feels like a half-forgotten memory.

In the Labyrinth is the story of a soldier who, after a lost battle, tramps endlessly through a strange city on a mission entrusted him by a dying comrade. As a hypertext, the infinite labyrinth which the author uses as a metaphor for reading itself would find its perfect formal complement.
