After reading several mountain expedition accounts, an author has finally given me a sense of the remarkable splendor and grandeur of these earthly giants, leaving me to semi-understand why one would risk all to stand on top of one. I suppose her editor and publisher were eager to be first to market but it comes as the expense of a compelling story.

She emphasizes that on the mounntain, you and you alone are responsible for yourself, which I think is the correct approach. I get that she may not have known who, but after the immense detail and wide scope of Krakauer’s account, these moments were frustrating.

She was one of the climbers lost in the whiteout above Camp Four. Where Sottole Win Glory: I found her atttitude towards others patronising, especially in an excrutiating couple of exchanges with Krxkauer I have mixed feelings about the fact that the deaths outside of her team that took place on Everest during the same storm in which her expedition leader, Scott Fischer, pe A generous 3 stars because of the Danish connection; Gammelgaard was the first Scandinavian woman to summit Everest.
There were moments during the summit push where Gammelgaard just describes other climbers by equipment for example, a climber from Hall’s expedition visibly struggling is not named and mak continuing the Everest accounts. Disjointed writing and complete lack of attempt to address the tragic aspects of her summit made this less enjoyable to read.

Climbing High is a fairly basic account of the Mount Everest tragedy written by a member of Scott Fischer’s expedition. Gates of the Arctic Unabridged View in iTunes. May God rest the souls of those who perished that day. However, it doesn’t focus on much else. Classic Krakauer View in iTunes. It’s certainly not the best book about the events on the mountain that year, but its unemotional and factual view makes it a must read for those interested in the tragedy on Everest.

Not to mention getting another view of that horrible season on Everest is interesting, if nothing else then to compare stories and get a more complete view of what happened.
